Check back here regularly to find out what's going on at The Best Pub in Hungerford

July 4th, COVID 19 and all that...

Having had a few days to digest and act on government guidelines for the reopening of pubs on 4th July, we now have our risk assessment in place. We are, like everyone else new at this way of working, although we will improve and adapt to become experts very quickly, and ask for your understanding and patience during the initial opening phase.

We have several contactless hand sanitiser stations within the pub as well as at both doors. There is a hand washing station in the garden as well as a hand sanitiser station for your use. Our cleaning and sterilisation of all areas will be scrupulously adhered to.

The pub will be open 12 to 11pm daily (10.30pm Sundays)
Food will be served 12 to 2.30 pm and 5.30 to 9pm (12 to 8pm Sunday)
The garden and Tiki Bar will be open when the weather permits during opening hours.

We will work on a booking only policy, both inside and out, for both food and drinks. This can be done over the phone, before arrival at the pub. This will allow us to control numbers, make sure that social distancing guidelines can be adhered to, and for the safety of our customers and staff. The lead person making the booking must have the contact details of all of their party should we ever need to supply them to the NHS for track and trace. We will take and hold, as we have always done, contact details for the lead person, who will be responsible for their party.

The government guidelines regarding groups of differing households and numbers of people must be adhered to in full.

We will provide full table service both inside and out, the bar itself should be avoided at all times, our wonderful team have extensive knowledge of our product range and will assist in your choices. We will provide taster notes of our craft ales and ciders on a separate menu to assist you with your choice, as well as our existing gin and rum menus.

As we have always done, we will print our menu daily, however now these will be disposed of after each use. Where practicable we will provide individual portions of sauce, mustard, mayo, ketchup, salt and pepper etc to minimise and contact with communal items.

All tables and chairs will be sterilised between bookings. The pub will be sterilised overnight daily.

I’m sure we can count on your support and co operation in these new, trying times, and we will continue to adapt and evolve as new guidelines and improved practices are introduced, whilst keeping the John O’Gaunt a lovely, fun, and relaxed environment for everyone, serving the finest food and drink in the area, safely, with a smile.
