A family owned Free House and Brewpub, The John O'Gaunt is a listed 16th century building which has been sympathetically restored, keeping
many original features. It is steeped in charm and situated in the heart of the historic town of Hungerford, acheiving Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence every year for the
last 5 years, putting us in the top 1% of pubs and restaurants in the country.
Whether you choose our fabulous outside enclosed heated tiki tents or inside beside our open fire you are assured to have a wonderful time.
As a free house we pride ourselves on our constantly changing selection of real ales, many of them from local breweries and some brewed by us in our own brewery here in Hungerford.
We also stock a great selection of draft real ciders, including offerings from some of our local cider makers such as Tutts Clump.
For those looking for more variety we have an array of other beers. In our bottled range we have over bottled beers from Belgium, award winning craft ales from around the world, award winning Kenyan Tusker lager and a range of bottled beers from local breweries.
On keg we often have Leffe Blond, La Chouffe and a selection of craft kegs from many other selected breweries that we like.
We are very proud of our food, and our local credentials, sourcing from local farms, local suppliers, our own beef reared on Hungerford Common, sustainable seafood, and locally grown produce.
As part of the INNformal Pub Co. and Brewery we are forging the way in bringing back the core values of traditional pubs, serving great, sometimes unusual, often amazing ales, ciders and beers with a welcoming smile and a friendly informed chat, with some lovely food offerings, we are many people's idea of the perfect pub.
If you dont believe us...
Duck Duck Duck!!! Mmmmmmm. Totally amazing dish with blackberries and caramelized onion. And an awsome salad with goats cheese, figs, pinenuts etc. No, but really, this is the best gastropub food in Berkshire let alone the Southwest! You have to taste it to believe it!
Friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. Lovely food, some of the best around and plenty of choice. Good selection of ales and a Belgian Beer and gin menu too.
Completely fabulous visit with my Mum for lunch.
Friendly service, reasonable prices, generous portions and amazing tasting and quality food.
We only nipped in for a quick sandwich and a drink but it was so good I felt compelled to write this review.
